Week 32 - September 17

In the "Zone" - time trial style

Yet another finish line!

Greetings,

I had a pretty eventful week once again. Had a staff retreat (equivalent of say a faculty day). It took place up in the foothills overlooking the mountains, quite spectacular. Surprisingly, it turned out to be a fun day with some pertinent discussions taking place amongst the groups.
Being the adventurous person that I am, decided to go mountain biking afterwards with some guys from work. It was an extremely difficult trail, not for a beginner like myself and my colleague who had never mountain biked. The result was quite disasterous and horrific. Casey fell into a ravine and landed on some tree stumps which basically took a huge chunk of skin/muscles off his left leg. the pics were quite sickening, but I'll spare you from throwing up. After a few hours had passed by, with him losing what seemed like 1/2 gallon of blood, we finally take him to the ER where he got stitched up and we were on our merry way home at 1 am the next morning!

On a lighter note, I competed in another race on Sunday - duathlon (bike 20 km, run 5km) and surprisingly did pretty well. I finished in 6th place out of 36 racers in my age group, and overall, finished in 30th place out of 245 racers. My time overall was 1 hr and 11 minutes. Finally, downing 100+ litres of Gatorade and over 50 powerbars and gels, the training is finally paying off!

Week 31 - September 10

Hey Everyone,

Wow it's been another jam packed weekend for me. I did a practice duathlon race on Saturday, which consisted of only a 20 km bike ride and a 5km run. I actually hit the bike quite hard and ran out of steam by the time I finished the run. Luckily for me, this was only a practice session as the big race is not until next Sunday!
Crazy me, decided to compete in a fun 5km run Sun morning at the Boulder reservoir. My time was a bit slow - 28 mins and to make matters worse, I just couldn't see to shake off the side-stitch that was looming me at the start of the race. I did however finished in the top half of the group and even managed 3rd place in my age group! However, there's still room for improvement!. Afterwards, I decided the 5km run was just a warm up for me, so I went out and did some mountain biking in Boulder for about 2 hours. Needless to say, I was in bed by 9pm Sunday evening!

Greetings,
After an exhausting week in California, it was great to settle back into the Mile High city. It was a public holiday here on Monday (sept 3 - Labor Day), so it was a good excuse for people to get drunk and spend their hard-earned dollar on more beer and at the side-walk sales.
I also went to a great broadway show - the Little Mermaid, which was fantastic. Wow, I was so blown away by the costume and stage design. This is by far one of my favourite Disney shows. They created an entire underwater scene without using a drop of water, very impressive!
My week ended on a high note with me taking a podium finish to be crowned "CU Online Cornhole Champion 2007" with my partner for the evening - Matt. It's a game of skill and luck, which proved quite difficult when darkness quickly began to settle upon us. Nonetheless, we "threw" ourselves across the finish line and pocketed the winning cash prize and took home a very unique trophy that will fit perfectly on my mantelpiece!
