Week 32 - September 17

In the "Zone" - time trial style

Yet another finish line!
Greetings,
I had a pretty eventful week once again. Had a staff retreat (equivalent of say a faculty day). It took place up in the foothills overlooking the mountains, quite spectacular. Surprisingly, it turned out to be a fun day with some pertinent discussions taking place amongst the groups.
Being the adventurous person that I am, decided to go mountain biking afterwards with some guys from work. It was an extremely difficult trail, not for a beginner like myself and my colleague who had never mountain biked. The result was quite disasterous and horrific. Casey fell into a ravine and landed on some tree stumps which basically took a huge chunk of skin/muscles off his left leg. the pics were quite sickening, but I'll spare you from throwing up. After a few hours had passed by, with him losing what seemed like 1/2 gallon of blood, we finally take him to the ER where he got stitched up and we were on our merry way home at 1 am the next morning!
On a lighter note, I competed in another race on Sunday - duathlon (bike 20 km, run 5km) and surprisingly did pretty well. I finished in 6th place out of 36 racers in my age group, and overall, finished in 30th place out of 245 racers. My time overall was 1 hr and 11 minutes. Finally, downing 100+ litres of Gatorade and over 50 powerbars and gels, the training is finally paying off!
